Charleston Meeting Facilities

This is the last part of my series on places to picnic in Charlotte. In the first two articles, we visited Reedy Creek Pakr in the East Park and Freedom Park in the Central Park region. If you happen to live in the south of the city, I'd suggest you check out Colonel Beatty Park and William R. Davie Park in Mecklenburg County's South Park Region.
Coloney Beatty Park is located about 20 miles south of Charlotte in Matthews, North Carolina. This 265 hectare park has all the amenities you want from a family picnic park. If you are running a major event you may want to think about posting the Lake Pointe Hall. This climate controlled Lodge can accommodate groups of up to 120 people. It has a kitchen, toilets, water and electricity. It would be a great place for a conference or a family reunion. The park has two outdoor picnic pavilions and plenty of individual picnic tables.
Colonel Beatty Park offers many facilities for sports enthusiasts. There are basketball and tennis courts, horseshoe pits, softball field and five beautifully lighted soccer fields. There is also a 10 acre lake which is very well for canoeing and kayaking. In fact, there is a canoe and kayak-launch site.
If you're a novice or intermediate mountain bikers, you're 5.75 mile range enjoy Colonel Beatty Park. The green loop is to drive a very simple, but the black diamond trail is much harder. There is not much height difference, but There are many roots and tight turns, so you will not be challenged. Hiking trails are maintained by the Tarheel Trailblazers Bike Club and improved all the time.
The 107 acres of William R. Davie Park is about 25 minutes south of Charlotte and about 15 minutes from Colonel Beatty Park The reason I chose to write about this park is because it is the home of the Davie Dog Park. When you have a dog and wants him to run free, this park is for you. The park covers five acres and is divided into two separate areas divided fenced, a large (over 20 pounds) and a dog for smaller dogs. You may leave your dog from his leash in the Davie Dog Park As it should be, you are obliged to clean out after the dog.
William R. Davie Park also has many of the amenities you expect at a family picnic park. There are indoor and outdoor picnic facilities, softball fields, football fields, horseshoe pits and a volleyball park. There are also hiking trails and a small lake. Finally there is a well-equipped playground for your children to enjoy while you kick back and relax.
This concludes my series on places to picnic in Charlotte, NC. I hope you have this series and the other articles I've written are found useful. Keep checking back, because I will be starting again, a number of great places to picnic very soon.
