When traveling through the South, certain destinations such as Charleston and Savannah are very attractive to many because they are rich in history and warmth. In North Carolina, New Bern has a similar appeal and it is just now "discovered" by visitors as a great destination in itself. See why the birthplace of North Carolina such a strong interest to the visitor continues.

In 1710 New Bern was in German and Swiss adventurers from Bern, Switzerland down. During the colonial period, served the city as the first capital of the colony of North Carolina. In addition, New Bern has other claims to fame, including:

1st The birthplace of Pepsi. Atlanta has Coca-Cola, but New Bern gave birth to Pepsi. Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist, created the soft drink for medicinal purposes as well as taste. Visit the shop – the only opened in 1998 – and try some of the specialty Bradham.

2nd Croatan National Forest. Civil War buffs enjoy stop by here as "forest" was a major battlefield during the war between the states.

3rd USMC Aviation Exhibit. Just outside of New Bern, in Havelock, is to demonstrate the Navy aviation. Artifacts, photographs, scale models and restored aircraft are among the attractions Chef found in the exhibition.

Visitors to New Bern is ample and varied accommodation and dining facilities in the city. Because of its proximity to the sea, fresh seafood is in abundance and is a favorite for many. Day trips up and down the coast or inland to the present Capitol, Raleigh, are easily accessible. As Savannah and Charleston, the city exudes charm of the South at lower cost and with less crowds. Truly, New Bern history at its best and are available at a price you will find affordable.
